Meet TL "Mexico" Hutton

Biography

Born under the Cherokee sign of the Wolf on March 4, 1978, and adopted on the eve of his Mexica progenitors Dia de los Muertos, TL Hutton is a Mexicano Cherokee author and artist from the dirty Phoenix Arizona desert who currently resides upon the Ozark Plateau’s Grand Prairie in Southwest Missouri, lands once belonging to the tribes of his Iroquoian ancestors, and among the tranquil colonial neighborhoods of Roma Norte in Mexico City, Mexico. Following a twelve-year-long hiatus, TL has embarked on an errant pursuit to breathe new life into old passions, to reclaim that part of himself he had lost along that road called life and return to the literary world and the Arts he so dearly loves and has longed to again be a part of.

A retired landscape architect and designer (where he holds a diversity of Design Certifications in various software and industry practices) who now practices in Graphic Design, Media Arts, and publishing, TL returned to university in 2022 as a full-time student at SNHU pursuing his BA in Graphic Design with a focus (Minor) in Media Arts to accompany his BA in Creative Writing with a focus (Minor) in Fiction

TL has been practicing in dark and speculative fiction (Cultural, Historical, Horror, Dark Romance, Science Fiction, Supernatural) for over thirty-five years. He has written over 70 short stories, many of which will be presented for the first time on Obsidian Skull Press and is best known for his Darkness Writhing Mythos and A Man Who Followed Hell series. Presently, TL is at work on new tales both within and outside of the Mythos - somber tales of mixed ethnicity trying to find its place and self among American Cultural Imperialism, social status quo, political guile, hope and loss, family, fate and destiny, and the connection between faith, divinity, and purpose.

A dedicated advocate for marginalized voices and founder of Obsidian Skull Press, TL is presently at work on Yōcoya Art & Design™, an Obsidian Skull Division dedicated to the inclusion of Latinx, Mesoamerican, and Native American-influenced art in contemporary graphic design and digital art.

TL is an active member of SNHU's Creative Writing Review Club, the Springfield Writers Guild, the Horror Writers Association (HWA), and The Professional Association for Design (AIGA). As well, he is active with many national and international groups such as Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW), Native Hope, Grupo Latinoamericano, and the Springfield Regional Arts Council.

When TL doesn’t have his face buried in scholarly articles and university coursework, working on manuscripts, or isn’t obsessing over graphic design work in Adobe’s Creative Cloud, he invests in travelling to Mexico and Latin America to embrace his roots, spending time with his Gummy Bear-addicted dogs, Maya and Aries, standing against American Cultural Imperialism and oppression, and defending Latinx, Native American, and marginalized equality, inclusion, and rights.

He can often be found perusing shelves at local libraries and book stores, enjoying tacos callejeros and a cerveza at local Latin American-owned cantinas, working out in his home office, world-building in Unreal Engine, frequenting museums and art galleries, getting his Nerd on with online MMOs and MMORPGs (you can find his gaming profile on Steam @AztecNerd), collecting Mesoamerican art and coffee culture deco from Latin America, networking and making new friends, and engaging in the creative process whenever possible.

TL believes in aliens (and often ponders why it seems they only abduct drunken Hill Folk), wonders if sasquatch do eat beef jerky as portrayed in Jack Link’s commercials, wants a zombie for a pet, and owning a wallet made of chupacabra leather is number one on his bucket list.
